LinkSurvey

LinkSurvey can save the settings and results of a query for future uses, or you can open it and restart the query process from the beginning. All of the address found will fall under one of three categories: "New" (Those that are found for the first time on the last run query), "Unverified" (Those that were found previously but not on the last run query) and "Verified" (consistently found in multiple queries). You may classified these three statues by icons at the top of each row in the link window:, for "New", for "Unverified" and for "Verified".

To start or resume query: Select "Start" in the "Search" menu; if you are working with an established project, then it will begin the query process from the beginning. If it is a project that has been started previously, then this will resume the process. You will see a progress bar that will help you estimate how much time is remaining until the process is complete. Alternatively, you can click button on the tool bar to launch such operation.

To restart a query: You can re-query a project by selecting "Restart" under the "Search" menu. For example, you will probably need to query your project after a period of time to check for the latest changes. You can also perform this option by clicking the button on the toolbar as well. Alternatively, you can click button on the tool bar to launch such operation.

To Stop a Query: You may select "Stop" in the "File" menu to abort a query in the middle of the process; you can also click the button on the tool bar to abort the process.

The addresses of web pages found containing links to the specified sites will appear in the link window after their query. The "Address" column is the URL of the found web page, while the "Hit" column shows the number of links to specified sites found on that particular page. If the cell is blank, that means that web page contain links to the defined website; if it the cell as a "Y", it does contain a link to the defined site.

You can set limitations for a project so that LinkSurvey does not send too many requests to search engines. Select "Project Property" in the "File" menu; "Total Search Depth" is the maximum amount of web pages that should be found totally for this project; "Site Search Depth" is the maximum amount of web pages that should be found for every site in the project; "Search Engine Search Depth" is the maximum amount of web pages that should be found from every search engine for any site. If you do not set any of these fields, there will be no limits.

An external link is a link that leads outside of your own site, to a site that is not yours and over which you have no editing authority. An internal link leads to another page within your own site. If you want to get rid of all internal links in link popularity search result, you may check "Exclude Internal Link" option in "Project Property" dialog. Furthermore, you can also enable "Exclude Link with Regular Expression Matching" option and define the regular expression to exclude certain links within search result.
