The "Background" panel is used to set the background attributes of the scene such as background color and image. Its user interface is shown below:

The background color of a scene can be set in one of the following three types. "Transparent": The background is filled transparently, which means the scene has no background color. "Solid color": A single color is used to fill the background. You can select the background color with the color picker. "Gradient color": Gradient color is used to fill the background. You can use the color pickers to select the start and end colors, and select a gradient type ("Line" or "Circle") at the same time. For linear gradient, you can set its angle of rotation.

The background of the scene can be drawn with both the specified background color and background image. When the "Image" option is checked, you can used the "..." button on the right to located a local image file as the background image of the scene. Its format can be BMP, GIF, JPEG or PNG. The background image can be drawn with one of the methods among "Stretch", "Tile" and "Center". Their meanings are similar to those used for Windows desktop image. The background images of the scenes will be saved in JPEG format in the created Flash movie. When the value of "JPEG quality" is larger, the background image is clearer, however, the file size of the Flash movie increases accordingly; and with a smaller value, the background image is fainter while the file size of the Flash movie reduces.

"Freeze background for ... seconds after all text exits": Usually when all the exit animations of the text paragraphs in a scene have been completed, the Flash movie will end playing the scene and switch to the next one. If you want to keep the background of a scene longer after all the text paragraphs exit, you can enter a value here to set the specific wait time.
